Doreen Massey explains that she believes social space is a product of our relations with each other, and can be understood as a collection of stories-so-far. To test out this theory, please conduct the following research:

- Go to a public space where you can sit and watch people. This can be a library, a café, a museum, a shop etc. Spend at least ten minutes sitting in a space and observing the people within it.

- Think about how people are behaving and interacting with each other. How do their interactions shape the atmosphere of this space? How would this change if they behaved differently?

- Can you imagine some background stories of the people you watch? Think about why you think they are in this space, and what they might do next.

- Describe this experience and your thoughts about whether you agree or disagree with Doreen Massey’s ideas about space.

I went to the library in my university. People here are all behind the computers, it creates some distance between people. But a lot of people destruct that distances and silence by talking, laughing, asking for a help, working together, etc. It makes the space encouraging to work, create, be friendly and help each other. I always feel that when I come to the library. I start to feel like all these people are working for they goals, deadlines, working on projects and essays and it unites all people, you feel that you are not alone with all the work that you have to do. So, I agree that people and their behaviour can influence the feel of the space, your mood and the atmosphere of the place.
